BDTTA TIMES & DIRECTORY HANDICUP 2014-2015

There were 39 teams taking part this year's competition out of a possible 58 teams - 67%.

The Tournament Secretary does not have the details of last year's entry but this year's entry is a reduction from 75% for 2013. It was encouraging entry but was disappointing as every round had walkovers up to and including the quarter final stage. Thank you to all clubs and teams for their participation.

This year saw the introduction of a new handicapping system that has been used by a number of local leagues. Individual player handicaps are based upon a relative handicap between the players as opposed to the more traditional absolute system. An analysis of previous winners had shown that the absolute system favoured higher division teams or teams from the lower divisions who had shown great improvement over the course the season.

The aim of introducing the new system was to giver a greater opportunity for the teams from the middle divisions. The handicaps were based on previous handicaps and previous averages. The new handicaps will be refined for next year's competition based upon handicap results and league averages.

The semi-final consisted of one premier team, one division 2 and two division 3 teams.

Winner was Bournemouth Sports K (Division 3)

Runner-up was Merton H (Division 3)

Result: Bournemouth Sports K beat Merton H 5-2. The match was a lot closer than the final match result indicated with a number of matches going the full distance.

The 'Plate' competition was contested by 23 teams.

Winner was New Milton D (Division 2)

Runner-up was Bournemouth Sports J (Division 3)

Result: New Milton D beat Bournemouth Sports J in an entertaining and enjoyable final. Well done to both teams.

There were 5 specific weeks for the competition, with the Semi-Finals and Finals being played after Individual Tournament weeks.
