Town Match Secretaries Report

This season BDTTA have sent representatives to two competitions, the Carter Cup, a competition for Junior Boys for leagues at a national level and a Dorset interleague competition for Division 2-3 standards.

The Carter cup started with a Zonal round, held at the Grange, with teams from Plymouth, Brighton and Didcot with the top two teams progressing to the final to be held in June. Each match consisted of 2 players each, 4 singles matches and one doubles. BDTTA were represented by Ali Malloch and Jack Trafford.

Our opening match was against Didcot. Ali had a comfortable 3-0 win over Lewis Waddup but Todd Stanmore proved a tougher proposition for Jack who forged out a 3-2 victory 13-11 in the 5th!

The lads did not quite gel in the doubles losing 3-1 but Ali took the tenacious Stanmore, 11-9 in the 5th and Jack winning in 4.

Next up Brighton.

The Brighton pair of Billy Keegan and Brandon Bennett were looking for victory having just lost to Plymouth 5-0 without winning a game. Ali lost to Keegan 11-7 in the 5th. Jack beat Bennett by the same score also in the 5th, 1-1. The doubles went to Brighton, leaving Bournemouth needing both singles to take the match. Jack won in 4 leaving Ali to hold his nerve to win 11-7 in the 5th (again).

Bring on the mighty Plymouth in the showdown for first and second place.

Plymouth represented by Joshua Millman and Uther Kingdom played some very attacking and entertaining Table-Tennis, and with a place at the finals already assured, Ali and Jack managed to win just 1 game each to lose out 5-0.

STOP PRESS REPORT AT THE FINALS!!!

Dorset Interleague

Held on the 20th May at Child Oakford village hall, this was a round robin competition between the 4 Dorset affiliated Leagues, Weymouth, Blackmore Vale, Wimborne and Bournemouth. Unfortunately, Wimborne were unable to field a team, as they have just one division and quite a lot of crossover with Blackmore vale and Bournemouth players.

The format was a 4 man team, with players 1 and 2 playing one another and likewise with players 3 and 4, making 8 matches, (no doubles).
