BDTTA FINALS NIGHT 2010/2011 - REPORT

Friday, 28th January 2011

An enjoyable evening of table tennis was had with Steve Davies (North Bournemouth) and the youngster Hugo Pang (Bournemouth Sports) both winning three titles each, and Sanja Clements (Bournemouth Sports) and Geoff Ware (Bransgore) both winning two titles each. Steve was also runner-up in the Mixed Doubles with Linda Hales (North Bournemouth) and Hugo was runner-up in the Premier division. Hugo retained his Junior U15 and Junior U18 titles, Louie-La retained his Veteran 40+ title and Danny Allen retained his Veteran 70+ title. Commiserations must go to Martin Jerome (Ringwood) who appeared in three finals but narrowly lost them all.

There were some outstanding matches going to five sets - Mens Doubles, Division 2, Division 3, Veterans 40+, Veterans 60+, and for the first time in many years two junior players both aged 11 years contested the Bournemouth Handicap Cup. Hugo Pang and Andre Coppard (both from Bournemouth Sports) played a good match with Hugo (+6) defeating Andre (+27) 31-29 and 31-30. Well done to Andre in his first season.

Although there were a number of good matches played, Veteran 40+ (Louie-La coming from two sets down to win) and the Division 5 final, which was of a high standard, probably the toughest match on the night was the Division 2 match between Phil Hadley (Lynwood) and Roy Hobbs (New Milton). Roy took the first two sets with Phil taking the next two. In the fifth set Phil was 0-9 and 2-10 down but fought back to win the set 12-10 and the match.
